Music Theater

The MusicTheaterLab

In 2018, Hermann Schneider, Ursula Brandstätter and Carola Bauckholt began collaborating with the Landestheater with the aim of sensitizing students to the interaction of music, scene, body, space and text and developing innovative 'models', 'formats' or 'narrative strategies'. Today, New Music Theater either takes place in relatively traditional formats at opera houses, or it has opened up to such an extent that it is present in a variety of multimedia art forms - from composition, improvisation, sound art to performances, dance, interventions in public space, in short: wherever the interaction of visual, acoustic, theatrical, performative, situational and conceptual aspects is questioned and illuminated in a new way. The aim of this project is to show these search movements and to develop and practice perspectives for today's creativity, also in the institution of opera. The practice of creating and realizing new scenic compositions is in direct dialogue with their reflection.

The first production with miniatures by Yoav Chorev, Óscar Escudero, Jorge Gómez, Roberta Lazo, Kristine Tjøgersen and Yiran Zhao was so successful that it was also shown at Theaterhaus Stuttgart in March 2019. Óscar Escudero and Yiran Zhao were commissioned by the Munich Biennale after the premiere in Linz.

Video recordings of all music theater miniatures can be found on DorfTV under this link.
