Rich in mountains, lakes and forests, Upper Austria, with its diverse and unique landscape and culture, offers valuable space for fresh ideas and young minds. As a centrally located state, it is easy to get to know and enjoy Austria in its entirety thanks to the Westbahn train line and the well-developed public transport network.
Upper Austria has worked hard to earn its reputation as a "culture country", and with its state music school it is regarded throughout Europe as a model country for music education. The Upper Austrian provincial government particularly promotes artistic education, which is why the Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität - in comparison to other comparable institutions - collects extremely moderate tuition fees.
As the third largest city in Austria, Linz has developed from a Roman province to an industrial city and finally to the European Capital of Culture 2009 after a long and eventful city history. With its new endeavour to act as a hotspot for artistic innovation in Upper Austria, Linz is actively positioning itself as a cultural city, with numerous museums, galleries and international festivals in various fields of music, dance, drama, film, media art and much more.
