Course for Improvisation in String Teaching

THIS COURSE IS CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE.

The course „Improvisation in string teaching“ is designed to further the training of string instrument teachers, answering the wish of many classically trained stringed instrument teachers that they should acquire skills in the areas jazz, pop and rock for an approach to instrumental teaching which includes the whole spectrum of contemporary music. At the centre of this course is the pedagogical approach to improvised music.

The teaching team

Andreas Schreiber, Peter Herbert and Christoph Cech teach at the Institute JIM for jazz and improvised music of the Anton Bruckner Private University Linz.

This course is aimed at teachers of stringed instruments who already have a teaching degree (Mag., BA or MA) or an equivalent qualification. In special cases this requirement may be waived if evidence is produced of teaching and performing experience over several years. The required certificates or evidence must be attached to the written application. The decision on whether to accept a candidate for the course „The use of improvisation-influenced music in string teaching“ is in the hands of a jury, consisting of the performance/teaching director Univ. Prof. Christoph Cech and two further representatives of the Anton Bruckner Private University appointed by the study commission.

Structure

The course can be studied alongside a working life and lasts 4 semesters. The teaching units take place in blocks over two weekends per semester (Friday 12 noon to Sunday 3 p.m.) in Schloß Weinberg in Kefermarkt. Between these blocks the participants have various tasks: self study, deepening their knowledge and skills, applying the new ideas to their teaching, preparation – and these take place via a continuous exchange with the course teachers.

Quality control and examinations

The course teachers check and confirm the students' command of the material on a modular basis. The final examination at the end of the 4 semesters is in the form of an artistic performance. The successful completion of the course is documented in a certificate and awards the graduate the title of Academic Expert for Improvisation in String Teaching.

Tuition fee

The inclusive course fee is €2,400 per participant, payable in 4 installments of € 600,- at the beginning of each semester (up to the end of the registration deadline).
