Academy for Contemporary Ballet

The Institute of Dance Arts (IDA) at the Anton Bruckner Private University extends their extramural studies with the Akademie für Zeitgenössisches Ballett (Academy for Contemporary Ballet), a pre-professional dance study programme. It is designed to prepare young and talented students for further undergraduate dance studies and professional stage work. Dancers with an intermediate to advanced level, who are seeking a career in dance, are accepted on the basis of a successful audition process.

Curriculum

The course structure will be integrated into five focus areas: technique, choreography, conditioning, interdisciplinary wrkshops, and performance. The principle studies are classical ballet and contemporary dance, which will be combined with a strong focus on integrating technical learning processes with artistic processes.

Time Required

The dance study occurs over intensive weekend blocks once a month. Both Saturday and Sunday will consist of 6 hours of dancing; this includes four classes per day with a duration of 90 minutes each. A classical ballet and contemporary technique class will take place on both days. There will also be one intensive week during the summer school holidays. Additionally, students will showcase their semester work, including their own choreography and choreography from their teachers, during the year.

Requirements

  • Dancers who are seeking a professional career in dance, with an intermediate to advanced level in contemporary and classical ballet techniques.
  • For students from 12 years of age.
  • There is an audition requirement for interested applicants. The audition takes the form of a classical ballet and contemporary class.

Graduation

Students who have finished four semesters are required to complete a final examination in order to be awarded a diploma certificate by the ABPU.
