The Arts and Research

The area of research at universities of the arts is characterized in English-speaking circles as the „advancement and appreciation of the arts“. This suggests three possible approaches to research which are relevant to the Bruckner University as an educational institution for the performing arts of music, dance and drama:

  1. the development and appreciation of the arts in the form of performances and their documentation (CDs, DVDs, online publications) as well as editions of music and compositions
  2. the academic study of themes related to the arts (for example in the disciplines of musicology, music pedagogy, dance studies and theatre studies)
  3. the young field of artistic/academic research, which is developing new forms of acquiring knowledge and new insights at the intersection where academic and artistic methods meet. In international discourse this area is often termed „artistic research“
