Upper Austrian Opera Studio

A cooperation between the Landestheater Linz and the Institute for Singing and Music Theatre at the Anton Bruckner Private University

Membership of the Upper Austrian Opera Studio is for two seasons and stands between training and the first solo engagement. During this time, participants work on chamber operas and recitals and are engaged in small and medium-sized roles in current productions at the State Theatre. They benefit from working with renowned conductors, directors and experienced ensemble members. Parallel to their professional practice on stage, the studio members are enrolled at the Anton Bruckner Private University, where they can deepen their studies in the music theatre course or in the master's programme.

Six young singers were selected at the end of April 2016 from over 500 applications from all over the world, including the USA, Russia, China, South America, Canada, Korea, South Africa, Italy, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Germany and Austria. In the 2016/17 season, the first six singers began their engagement at the Linz State Theatre and their studies at the Bruckner University at the same time.
Since then, auditions have been held every two years for the six positions of lyric soprano, lyric colouratura soprano/soubrette, mezzo-soprano, lyric tenor, baritone and bass-baritone/bass.
